Mongolia on Film Film Khadak 8 pm Friday, February 15, 2008 Remis Auditorium
 Khadak
by Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth (Belgium/Germany/Netherlands,
2006, 104 min.). Set in the frozen steppes of Mongolia, this
"entrancing looking and lushly scored magical-realist fable" (Leslie
Felperin, Variety) tells the epic story of Bagi, a young nomad
confronted with his destiny to become a shaman. When a plague strikes
the local animals, the nomads are forced to relocate to desolate mining
towns. Bagi saves the life of a beautiful coal thief, Zolzaya, and
together they reveal the plague to be a lie designed to eradicate
nomadism, and a sublime revolution ensues. Called a "trippy spectacle"
by Matt Zoller Seitz of The New York Times, the film presents an unusual story set in a spectacular location. In Mongolian with English subtitles.

Parking There
are two Museum lots: one is a covered garage on the left side of Museum
Road; the other is an open-air parking lot on the right side of Museum
Road, just beyond the garage. Because parking at and near the MFA is
limited and fills up fast--especially during popular exhibitions and
school vacation weeks--the MFA encourages visitors to carpool or use
public transportation.
